about me
Hi, my name is Krisztina Kocsis, I’m working as a freelance information designer from Budapest, Hungary. Welcome to my portfolio page, let me introduce myself.
What’s driving me the most is to understand the world and to explain it to others – using figures, data and pictures.
I’ve graduated originally as an architect. I’ve been fascinated by things which seem contradictory by nature: beauty and functionality, engineering and humanistic approach, numbers and illustrations.
I’m convinced that both parts of these dichotomies are equally important to reach a deep understanding of things which then can lead to meaningful change.
During my career path I’ve been driven by curiosity and the desire to explore things. Therefore I’ve been constantly learning and improving my skills: those which were necessary for my profession (legal studies for engineering and economics, facilities management, etc.) and those which aligned with my personal interests (photography, illustration). Curiosity is also the main reason why I worked in various fields, mostly in international environment, using my Hungarian, English and German simultaneously.
By the end of 2017 I’ve decided to find a new profession where I’ll be able to use both my planning-analyzing-problem solving approach and my visual-creative skills. Luckily I could join the Creative Code course at MOME Open and after finishing it I had the chance to create interactive graphs, maps and data visualizations for index.hu news portal, for noklapja.hu and telex.hu.
Working for online media led me to see how my passion lies with more analytical approach and more creative and artistic data visualization techniques. Also I found that purpose matters to me a lot, therefore I prefer working on projects which are educational and/or cover important personal and social topics.
Currently I’m educating myself in this direction and I’m mostly working on projects which require manual labour.
I believe that the connection between contradictory things does exist and is important because it leads to deep understanding. That connection is what I’m looking for in data. This is the glue, the story which connects drawings with figures, the understandable with the experiencable, the personal with the universal.
